Tips to get rid of foot odour

Thursday, May 15th, 2014

Also known as Bromodosis, foot odour is triggered by excess accumulation of sweat and is a common problem faced by many people especially during summer season. Wearing closed footwear with no room for ventilation can worsen this problem. Although not life-threatening, this condition can prove to be extremely embarrassing

Here are a few quick remedies to get rid of foot odour

The simplest way to cast off smelly feet is by washing the foot sole which carries a lot of sweat and bacteria. Wash your feet daily with warm water and a deodorant soap. Black tea foot bath can also prove to be very helpful in getting rid of foot odour. To do so, boil 2 cups of tea bags in 2 cups of water for 15 minutes. Now take these tea bags off and dilute it with 2 quarts of water. When this water comes down to a normal temperature, soak your feet in it for 30 minutes.

Dust some anti-septic talcum powder and/or spray a good-quality deodorant on your feet prior to wearing your socks/shoes. Doing so will reduce the stench caused due to odour

Add 2 cup of Epsom salt to half bucket of water and soak your feet in it for 15 minutes. This acts as an astringent that reduces sweat production and decreases bacteria. For best results, perform this procedure once a day, until the problem persists.

Lavender oil foot massage daily before going to bed is another effective solution to keep foot odour at bay. Covering the feet with soaks right after a relaxing massage promotes quick absorption of oil.

In order to avoid sweat and odour, it is recommended to select footwear that offers sufficient ventilation for the feet. If you have no other option but to wear a closed shoe, sprinkle some corn starch or baking soda in the insides of the shoe before putting it on. These 2 ingredients not only soak excess moisture but also neutralize the foul odour.

If done in a proper manner, skin exfoliation can in fact help you preserve a youthful appeal. Did you know that the finest skins exfoliants are not the ones that are available in the market but actually hidden in your own kitchen?

Unprocessed Honey – Make a sweet addition to your skincare routine. Honey is enriched with anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties that acts as a defense against bacterial infections and repairs the skin texture.

Yoghurt – Easily accessible in your kitchen, yoghurt is loaded with lactic acid (also known as alpha hydroxyl acid that is used in prescription skin care treatments). Add some milk to yoghurt. Apply this mixture to any part of your body. Keep it on for 20 minutes and wash it off. This mixture is an excellent skin-smoothening exfoliant

Mix sea salt with water and scrub your face with it in the morning. This homemade skin exfoliation procedure helps in opening up the pores

Baking soda– Did you know that baking soda is used in several high-end spa treatments, however also note that the only a certain amount of baking soda should be used on the skin. It is not recommended to apply baking soda on extremely sensitive skin. Food Items To Avoid Before & After Workout

Monday, May 5th, 2014

Have you ever wondered the reason for not losing weight despite following a strict workout regime?

The answer to this question lies in your diet. A person is more likely to feel lethargic and fatigued immediately after a strenuous workout session, if he/she is not following an ideal diet plan.

Here are some pre and post workout diet tips.

Workout Diet Tips

PRE

The first rule is to never workout on an empty stomach but this does not mean that you eat anything that tempts your taste buds. What you eat before workout plays a very important role in supplying the body with optimal nourishment, which is why certain food items are labeled as the best pre-workout meals while the others have to be strictly avoided.

POST

An intense, calorie-burning exercise session can do wonders for your body, provided you team it up with appropriate post workout meal. If you are serious about building muscle and losing fat, you need to closely monitor the food that you consume once you complete the workout.

No ‘Soda’ or ‘Energy Drinks’

It has been believed that caffeine is an energy booster for the body. However, some people tend to consume a large dose of energy drinks/soda during or prior to their workout. A high dosage of caffeine in the energy drinks may not be able to get enough sleep during the rest of the day. This may hamper the results of your workout and also take a toll on your overall health.

‘No’ to Fast Food & Fatty Snacks

Post workout, your goal should be to replenish your body’s glycogen and reduce the body fat. Fast foods like pizzas and burgers not only add an extensive amount of fat to the body but also store it in there for longer period of time.

Steer Clear of Heavy Meals

Chicken curry, Pastas, Rice and the likes are best consumed as a main meal. Seasonings and spices in such foods are very likely to trigger heartburn or cause a stomach upset once you start moving. Therefore, avoid heavy meals before your workout; instead opt for a bowl of freshly chopped fruits or oats before hitting the gym.

Steer Clear of Chocolates & Energy Bars

These bars provide you nothing which is required for muscle recovery. The negative impact of these bars is far worse than the instant energy given by them. Replace them with a good quality protein shake.

Avoid Deep-fried Snacks

Any food item that is cooked in oil takes longer for the body to digest—therefore, should be avoided. Potatoes are a rich source of carbohydrates, and can make an excellent pre-workout snack but this doesn’t mean that you can feast on a bowl of French fries before leaving for the gym. Be smart in selecting your pre-workout meals in order to achieve optimal results.

Avoid Salty Snacks

Salty snacks can instantly deplete the levels of potassium in the body which plays an essential role in muscle recovery. A bowl of Upma or Cereal can be a perfect meal after your workout

Make sure that your body is sufficiently hydrated before, after & during the workout session. What you eat before & after workout has a subsequent impact on your body, especially when you are consciously trying to lose weight. A well planned diet not only fuels your fitness regimen but also keeps you healthy by supplying vital nutrients to the body on a daily basis.

When her friends found out she had cancer, they did something wonderful

Friday, March 28th, 2014

New Delhi: It is said, true friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Gerdi McKenna’s friends stand testimony to this. In February 2014, one of her friends wrote an e-mail to all her friends requesting a photoshoot for Gerdi who was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months before. You are already going ‘aww’, right? But wait, this was no ordinary photoshoot.

The soul-stirring video ‘Anything for love …’ captures every beautiful moment of this photoshoot, which looks nothing short of a convivial champagne brunch. Laughs, hugs, pink t-shirts and ribbons – hardly what you’d expect at a photoshoot for a friend diagnosed with cancer.

“Okay girls, show time,” announces a man. You expect the photoshoot to start but there’s something else lined up before that, and this is what makes these friends the world’s best set of best friends.

“I am very nervous but I know this is the right thing to do. I am giving up my pride for a friend who is going through much more,” says a friend.

This heart-warming video is sure to make you weep.
