Dr Tanuja completed her basic medical training from Dr.D.Y.Patil college ,Navi Mumbai and post-graduation in General Pediatrics from Mumbai (National Board). She went on to train in Pediatric Cardiology from Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi from eminent teachers and acquired the National Board certified fellowship in cardiology in 2012.
She has been working in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital as a Pediatric cardiologist. since the past 12 years. Performs all kinds of echocardiograms with expertise (2D, 3D, TEE and fetal echocardiograms) and has a vast experience in interventional procedures such as device closures, ballooning’s, stent implantations and diagnostic cardiac catheterisations. One of the few cardiologists performing pediatric pacemaker implantations and conducting post-transplant biopsy procedures.
She trained in Pediatric Heart failure and Heart transplant at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Alberta Heart Institute,Edmonton,Canada and is currently the only Pediatric Cardiologist certified in Transplant training. Her primary focus of research during the training period was monitoring the beneficial effects of newer heart failure medications (ARNI) in children.
After completing her training in heart pediatric transplants, Dr Tanuja helped establish the pediatric heart transplant unit at KDAH and pioneered the first transplant in the unit. She is passionate about the cause of organ donations and strives to work in the field of awareness in the near future.
To her credit she has performed Balloon atrial septostomy in one of the tiniest baby weighing just 800gms who was suffering from a fatal CHD (TGA). She was invited to speak on “Challenges faced in Pediatric Cardiac Care in India’ at the Global health conference in Canada in 2019. She has participated and given her inputs in a multi-institutional research study of ‘Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children’(MIS-C) during the Covid Pandemic and has been one of the authors to formulate guidelines on ‘Sports activity in children with heart defects’.
