On 26th April 2024, Dr Shreyash Gajjar was one of the first in India to perform this new surgical technique.
Shoulder Arthritis is a common problem of the shoulder. It results from ageing, Chronic Rotator cuff tendon tear either due to sports injury, accident or trauma predominantly in the older patient. The shoulder joint function is thereby compromised resulting in pain, stiffness and weakness.
Shoulder replacement may therefore be indicated to relive pain and restore function. Reverse Shoulder replacement is a type of Shoulder replacement designed to restore function in such situations. Until recently, the surgical procedure which involves fixing an artificial cup & ball (shoulder joint) was performed by eye-balling technique & dependent entirely on the surgeon's expertise. Virtual Implant Positioning (VIP) system is a recently introduced technology wherein using a computer software precise placement of the shoulder components can be determined prior to surgery from the patient's CT scan of the shoulder. This novel technology improves surgical accuracy thereby improving patient functional outcome.
Dr Shreyash Gajjar now routinely uses this advanced technology for this type of surgery in his patients.
