All mandatory screening for the transfusion transmissible diseases like HIV1 and HIV2, HBV, HCV are done with the more sensitive and specific CMIA and ELISA method. All units are screened for VDRL and Malarial parasite
If you notice any new bleeding, apply pressure with your thumb at the needle site for 5 minutes and place a bandage at the bleeding site.
Make sure that you eat something or drink lukewarm fluids before you leave the Blood Bank / Camp.
It is important that you drink extra fluids in the first 4 hours following giving blood.
In order to help in replacing the fluid volume, consume extra quantity of fluids for the next 3 consecutive days.
For the next 12 hours after giving blood, avoid lifting of heavy objects and performing any kind of strenuous exercises. This will prevent bruising, help the scar to heal and allow your body to readjust the loss of blood.
Problems arising after giving blood like dizziness and swelling at the needle site may occur in less than 1 % of the cases.
If you experience any kind of dizziness, please sit down and place your head between your knees or lie down with your legs elevated. Remain in this position until the sensation subsides. This will avoid any kind of fall or injury.
If the symptoms persist or if you notice any swelling at the needle site, please apply ice or Thrombophob ointment. If the swelling still persists, call the Blood Bank ( +91-22-30937293) or consult your physician.
Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol / tobacco for at least an hour after giving blood.
